fake MAC 187 Duo Fibre brush The MAC 187 impostor I’m a little red faced to admit that I was duped. I know that there are countless warnings about purchasing brand items such as MAC brushes on eBay.

However, I thought I did my homework and covered all my bases.

Somehow, doing all that did not lessen the sinking feeling of realizing that the worse still happened- unwrapping a parcel only to discover a fake. In my case, a MAC 187 Duo Fibre brush impostor.

The very first indication that the item was a fake was the fact that the wooden handle fell off immediately after I had taken the brush out of it’s case! Hmm…alarm bells!

I decided to do some further investigation and came across a site that discussed the difference between an authentic MAC 187 and a fake one. The text is unfortunately not in English but there is a table guide with English headings and great pictures for reference! Below are some examples:

I went through the table and checked my newly purchased brush against all the features of a counterfeit MAC 187 . If this was a test, I would have received an A+ as I had ticked every single one of them (wrong dimensions, check; wrong font imprint, check..iriregular bristles, check..)

So would I continue to buy from eBay? Probably (as I have lots of positive auction experiences) but I’d err more on MAC brushes.

Would you buy MAC brushes from eBay?

As the saying goes, "buyer beware". To update, the seller (barneynature)still insists that the brush is real. I have the option of returning the item to get a refund, but that does not cover the postage cost of sending the item back. So: a) do I return the item and get a refund but still come out at the bottom because I have no brush and have forked out more money to return the item. The seller in the mean time doesn't lose any money and has the fake brush back to resell to some other naive and unsuspecting buyer. b)Cut my losses, keep the brush as a reminder to be more diligent, give negative but honest feedback in hope that it will spare someone else from making my mistake. Looks like b. it is.
